2 Signs Your Home May Need A New Water Well
If your home depends on a well for its water supply, you may have noticed problems lately when trying to access that supply. While there could be problems with the pump or filtration system, another possibility is that the well itself is having issues. Below are a couple of signs for which to look when trying to determine whether your home needs a new water well.
1. Water Sputters as It Comes Out of Your Home's Faucets
One sign that your home may need a new well for its water supply is if you notice that the water constantly sputters as it comes out of the faucets. If the water level in the well is low, the pump may not be able to pull enough liquid into itself. When there is not enough water, it will start sucking air through the pump and mixing it in with the water.
While this issue could be a crack in the pump itself, one main difference between a pump issue and well problems is that the sputtering is usually only present when your first turn on the water when the pump is to blame. If the well is going dry, the sputtering will last for the duration of the stream. You may even notice that it starts with a strong flow of water, only to be interrupted by an interval of pure air.
2. Dirt and Sediment Are Contaminating Your Water Supply
Another sign that you may need a new well for your house is when you start to see dirt and sediment in your water. The water may start to take on a murky appearance. Or, you may actually see specks of dirt or other types of sediment while looking through the water.
While this could be a sign of a dirty filter in the filtration system, if you change the filter and the problem continues, the issue is with the well. Either the water level is low enough to mix with the dirt or the sides of the well are collapsing and causing contamination of the water.
If you have ruled out problems with your well's pump and filtration system and are still experiencing the above issues, you may need a new well for your home.
